Champagne Gamet: An Authentic Family Estate in the Heart of the Vallée de la Marne
Founded in 1920
Mardieul, France

More Details
Champagne Gamet, located in the Marne Valley, is an authentic family estate with the status of "récoltant manipulant." Today, the estate is run by the younger generation: Marianne and her brother Jean-François. This 8-hectare estate, planted primarily with Meunier grapes, is now in the hands of the fourth generation of winemakers. Both Marianne and Jean-François' grandparents and parents were passionate champagne growers in the Marne Valley, carefully passing their vineyards down from generation to generation. In 2018, Marianne and Jean-François returned to the family estate, driven by their passion to perpetuate the rich family heritage. They dedicate themselves with love and respect to the unique craftsmanship of winemaking in harmony with nature.
Unique Vineyards on Both Banks of the Marne
The vineyards are situated on both banks of the Marne River, which is reflected in two distinctive Champagnes: Rive Droite (Right Bank) and Rive Gauche (Left Bank). The estate stretches from east to west and encompasses a diverse palette of terroirs and microclimates with soils consisting of various clay types. On the right bank, around Damery and Fleury-la-Rivière, the soils are cold, damp, and clay-rich, with green and white clay and sand. The vines here benefit particularly from their eastern and southern exposures. On the left bank, near Mardeuil, the calcareous clay soils warm up more quickly, with vines oriented towards the north and west.
Sustainable Winegrowing with Respect for Nature and Terroir
At Maison Gamet, sustainability is paramount, with a strong focus on the well-being of plants and soil. The working methods are adapted annually to specific circumstances, with quality always being the priority. The vineyards are carefully plowed and maintained in their natural habitat. The vines are protected according to the weather conditions of each season, taking into account rainfall and sunshine.
Artisanal Vinification and Refined Maturation
In the Gamet cellar, vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks and various types of wooden barrels, including large vats and barriques. In addition to terroir-based blends, Gamet also produces exclusive single-plot champagnes that reflect the unique character of their finest plots. Fermentation takes place with natural yeast grown in-house from their own vineyards. The wines are aged on lees for 10 months and then bottle-aged for a further 20 to 72 months, giving them their elegant and refined character.
